Plenipotentiaries from the Universal Postal Union's 192 member states will gather at the 26th Universal Postal Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, to set the course for 2017-2020.
Congress is the supreme decision-making authority of the Union and meets every four years to define and adopt the road map for UPU activities for each work cycle. The current work cycle runs from 1 January 2013 - 31 December 2016.
Plenipotentiaries adopted a new development cooperation policy for 2017 – 2020 during a committee meeting of the UPU’s 26th Universal Postal Congress.
Congress deliberations began with the Opening Plenary this morning, where delegates came together to elect the Congress Chairman and other Congress body leaders.
The 26th Universal Postal Congress, hosted by the Republic of Turkey, will open on 20 September.
The 26th Universal Postal Congress will still be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 20 September – 7 October, following a decision by acclamation by the Union’s Council of Administration (CA).
