Hussein and Clivaz, who were not opposed for their respective positions, were endorsed by members of the Union in Istanbul, Turkey, during the occasion of 26th Universal Postal Congress. The two were first elected in 2012 during the 25th Congress in Doha, Qatar. They will serve their final terms up to 2020.

Hussein and Clivaz are credited with sterling performance during their first mandate, where they posted 98 per cent achievement of the implementation of recommendations from the Doha Congress.

The Director General and Deputy Director General have brought in greater visibility to the Union through collaboration with other intergovernmental and international organizations. Through the initiative of Hussein and Clivaz, the UPU has added two annual forums, respectively dedicated to regulators and designated operators, to its calendar of events.

On his re-election, Hussein thanked members for the trust shown to him through this re-election and pledged to continue serving the Union diligently in his second mandate.

“I will work with member countries to help them develop new products and services that are relevant to today's demands by postal customers. We must continuously innovate and improve our products and services to remain competitive and relevant to the market,” Hussein said.

For his part, Clivaz thanked members for giving him another mandate as Deputy Director General and pledged to continue with the good work that he and the Director General have started.

“Now it’s the time to look forward and to continue working together for an ambitious, dynamic, reliable, relevant and transformed UPU,” Clivaz said.
